1 Dead, 1 Injured In West Birmingham Shooting

A 24-year-old man is dead and another victim hospitalized after a shooting on South Park Road Tuesday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The new year has started on a tragic note in Birmingham as the Birmingham PD is investigating its fourth homicide of 2022. A 24-year-old man was killed in a shooting in west Birmingham Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department said Leeco Whittington and another victim were shot at 36 South Park Road just after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Both were taken to UAB Hospital where Washington was pronounced dead.

The other victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

"The preliminary investigation suggests the victims were at the location when two unknown suspects approached them on foot and began firing shots at them," Fitzgerald said. "The suspects fled the scene in an unknown silver sedan."

No arrests have been made in this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Birmingham PD Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764.

This is Birmingham's fourth homicide in 2022 and was the second in 24 hours. A 40-year-old woman was shot and killed in east Birmingham Monday, and Birmingham police reported two homicides on New Year's Day.
