2 Teens Shot, Injured At Birmingham Housing Community: Police

Police said the gun is believed to have gone off when a 12-year-old girl was playing with the weapon.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Two teenage boys were shot in Birmingham Tuesday afternoon after police believe a gun that a 12-year-old girl was playing with went off.

Police responded to a call for a person shot in the 600 block of Brussels Circle around 3:30 p.m.

The boys, who are approximately 13 and 14, were suffering from gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of the victims suffered non-life threatening injuries while the other victim is in serious condition, according to police.

WBRC reported that the shooting took place in the playground of the Harris Homes.

The 12-year-old girl was taken into custody.
