9-Year-Old Girl Shot In Morton Simpson Housing Community
A child was wounded by gunfire Wednesday afternoon in the Morton Simpson Housing Community.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A 9-year-old girl was shot Wednesday afternoon in the Morton Simpson Housing Community in the 800 block of 44th Place North.
Community members alerted Birmingham police just after 3:30 p.m. about a child shot nearby, and police found the child wounded in the back seat of a vehicle, according to Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department.
Mauldin said the child was taken to Children's of Alabama with life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the girl was caught in crossfire between two men, Mauldin said. One person has been detained by police for questioning.
