- A Birmingham church is among 34 historic Black churches to receive a preservation grant. The 16th Street Baptist Church Inc., the site of crucial civil rights organizing meetings during Jim Crow segregation in the 1960s, is receiving a grant of $200,000 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund as part of its "Preserving Black Churches" program. The grant will support the critical restoration of the building’s structural integrity. (CBS42)
- Do you recognize this man? On Thursday, Birmingham police released photos of a suspect who was allegedly involved in a robbery on Friday in the northeast section of the city. The suspect reportedly demanded money before assaulting the victim and striking them with a handgun before fleeing. The victim suffered unspecified injuries. Anybody with information is asked to call robbery detectives at (205) 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous at (205) 254-7777. (AL.com)
- On Thursday night, a Mississippi man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 280 in Birmingham. The incident reportedly occurred just before 9:00 p.m. in the 4600 block of the highway. Officials with the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 38-year-old Nicholas Joseph Steinaid and said the circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation by the Birmingham Police Department. (ABC 3340)
