Birmingham School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Birmingham is August 10. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Birmingham City School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

• 8/3: First Day for Teachers / Teacher Work Day
• 8/4: Professional Development Day
• 8/7 - 8/8: Professional Development Days
• 8/9: Institute / Teacher Work Day
• 8/10: First Day of School for Students

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)

October

• 10/9: No School for Students (Professional Development Day)
• 10/12: End of First Period Grading (44 days)
• 10/27: No School for Students (Teacher Work Day)

November

• 11/10: No School (Veteran’s Day)
• 11/20 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Holidays)

December

• 12/19: End of First Semester / Last Day for Students
• 12/20: No School for Students (Teacher Work Day)
• 12/21 - 1/3: No School (Mid-Year Holidays)

January

• 1/1 - 1/3: No School (Mid-Year Holidays)
• 1/3 - 1/4: No School for Students (Professional Development Days)
• 1/8: Students Return
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday)

February

• 2/19: No School (President’s Day)

March

• 3/9: End of Grading Period (43 days)
• 3/26 - 3/30: No School (Spring Break)

April

• 4/2: No School for Students (Professional Development Day)

• 5/23: Last Day for Students, End of Semester (47 days)
