Birmingham Shootings Result In 3 Homicides
Three shootings in Birmingham Monday and Tuesday have Birmingham police investigating three homicides.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating three homicides that occurred Monday and Tuesday. Two of the shootings occurred in south Birmingham while the other deadly shooting occurred in east Birmingham.
A 26-year-old man was shot and killed in east Birmingham just before 3 p.m. Monday at an apartment at Watertown Circle. The victim, identified as Eric Henderson of Birmingham, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Three suspects were detained and questioned by detectives, according to Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department. An arrest has been made, but formal charges are pending with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

An altercation later Monday afternoon at 4300 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. resulted in the shooting death of 44-year-old Gelphin Matthew. The incident occurred near Bates Automotive.
Mauldin said a suspect is in custody and charges are pending.

A 32-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday night in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue Southwest. The man, identified as Michael Martez Johnson of Birmingham, was shot while in his car and was accompanied by a woman who was also shot. The woman was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham PD said the preliminary investigation suggests an unknown suspect approached the vehicle on foot then fired shots into the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. No arrests have been made.
