  1. Gov. Kay Ivey, Sen. Katie Britt, and Mayor Randall Woodfin were a few of the local and state leaders who helped dedicate the new location of the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. The center focuses on helping Alabama teachers understand the importance of educating our students about the Holocaust and why it's such a prominent time in history. During her remarks, Ivey officially announced that Apr. 16-23 will be the Holocaust Days of Remembrance. (WBRC)
  2. This month, the Birmingham Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy hosted a hackathon at Ramsay High School. The event was centered around four teams competing to create a campaign pitch that helps raise public awareness and increase the usage of electric vehicles in the Birmingham area. It was sponsored by Alabama Power employees and gave students the opportunity to experience real-world learning opportunities, gain access to energy professionals, and learn more about career development.   3. On Sunday, May 22, a shooting at an area hotel took place that led to one person injured and another being taken into custody. The shooting happened at Rodeway Inn on Parkway East in Birmingham and according to authorities, an adult male was lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived on the scene. The victim suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and an adult female was arrested as a person of interest. (WBRC)

  • On Wednesday, Jun. 7, Shelby County will host its annual senior picnic at Thompson High School. This year's event will feature a variety of activities, including live performances from well-known artist Sean of the South, as well as special guest Rose Colored Glasses.   • Get ready, Birmingham has a lot of businesses opening up and returning this summer! Some of the incoming businesses include authentic Egyptian and Middle Eastern restaurant Mr. Shawarma's, the return of Rocky's Pizza, the brand new Woodlawn Theatre, and much more. (Bham Now)
  • Birmingham City Schools (BCS) is looking for various businesses to partner with to expand opportunities and support for students. The district will host an open house on Friday, May 26, and interested businesses should make plans to visit a BCS school between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Attendees will be able to see learning in action and figure out how they can get involved with local schools.
