"A Chorus Line" Musical Opens at Virginia Samford Theater

A Broadway classic will come to Birmingham as the Virginia Samford kicks off its 90th season.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — One of Broadway's longest running shows will premiere to the public on Sept. 21 on the Virginia Samford stage. "A Chorus Line," a classic musical that centers around the lives of dancers and a choreographer as they prepare for a Broadway audition, will preview on Sept. 20 and run until Oct. 1.

The first show in the Virginia Samford's 90th season, "A Chorus Line" will feature dancers from the University of Alabama’s Theatre and Dance Department, with choreography by Stacy Alley. Alley previously directed a production of the same musical in Tuscaloosa that was called “a sterling recreation of a Broadway classic.” The musical itself has won nine Tonys and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The show will run on the mainstage on Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets run from $30 to $35 for the general public and $15 for students.
