Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- Birmingham natives created a comic book series that reached national success after being pitched to Shark Tank. The comic book series, Black Sands, started in 2017 when the couple decided to create a comic book highlighting children who do not typically see themselves represented. Birmingham Public Schools bought $37,000 worth of the comic book series for students interested. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
- During Memorial Day weekend, five gun-involved fatalities were reported across Birmingham. The respective police departments are investigating all five deaths as they try to discover the causes of each person. Among the five victims were two teenagers under 18 years old. (CBS 42)
- The new house bill 473 is in the works to help homeless mothers safely surrender their newborn babies through baby boxes. The new law states that mothers have up to 45 days to surrender an infant in a hospital or fire station. Lawmakers say this will be a long process necessary to the Birmingham communities.
