FEC Complaint Filed Against PAC That Supported Sen. Doug Jones

A complaint alleging federal campaign finance law violations has been filed against a super PAC that spent heavily to support Sen. Doug Jones in Alabama's special U.S. Senate election in December, but did not identify contributors until after the election.

A complaint was filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission against Highway 31 super PAC. The super PAC spent $4.4 million in support of Jones, outspending other outside groups in about a month after it formed on Nov. 6.

A complaint by the Campaign Legal Center charges that the PAC violated campaign finance law by not identifying its contributors, Al.com reported.

The PAC used a loophole to avoid identifying its contributors by operating on credit, the Daily Beast reported in December. The group did identify its contributors in a post-election report about five weeks after the election.

The Super PAC was mostly funded by two groups — Senate Majority PAC and Priorities USA Action Super PAC.
