Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. After a Monday morning fire, six Birmingham residents have lost their home. The fire occurred at a home on 34th Avenue and 16th Street. No injuries were reported and officials have not released any information about the cause of the fire. (WBRC)
  2. On Sunday night, Charles Anthony Smith was found shot inside of a burning car on Tuscaloosa Avenue. The 33-year-old leaves behind two small children and one on the way. Police came to the scene after both the city's gunfire detection system and community members alerted them. Smith's death is still under investigation. (AL.com)
  3. Students at Birmingham's George Washington Carver High School have won a $10,000 prize with an app pitch. Senior Ashley Pender and 12 other students worked with their easter Justin Sanders on an app called NeXsim. The app pairs students together through common interests. (The Birmingham Times)
