- On Sunday morning, human remains were discovered among a pile of trash in a drainage ditch in Birmingham. The remains were found on the shoulder of a road in the 8400 block of 7th Avenue South in the East Lake area by a citizen, according to reports from the Jefferson County Coroner's office. The recovered remains will be tested to determine the person’s identity and cause of death. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
- Birmingham police investigated a suspicious package at an office building on Monday; no hazard was found. On Monday morning, Birmingham Fire and Rescue, police, and a K-9 unit responded to the 2100 block of 11th Avenue South in Five Points for reports of a suspicious package found. Birmingham Fire and Rescue later announced the package does not contain a hazardous substance. (WBRC)
- A new program is bringing helpful resources to juveniles and their families. The City of Birmingham and Jefferson County Family Court’s Restore program is part of a multi-sector collaboration which focuses on the root causes of violence. In doing so, the program aims to better address prevention and "bring resources to the environment in which most of these children are currently living," according to Judge Janine Hunt-Hilliard.
