Man Shot While Riding In Car With Friends Dies At Hospital

The man was shot while riding in a car in Birmingham on Friday. He succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An Irondale man died Tuesday after being shot while riding in a car with friends last week, police said.

The man, identified as 24-year-old Travakius Maye, was in a car with friends in the 8300 block of of Third Avenue South on Aug. 2 when a dark colored car began to follow them, police said. The shooting happened approximately at 10:51 p.m.

Witnesses who were with Maye at the time told police that someone began firing from the dark-colored car and struck Maye. The driver of the car Maye was in drove to UAB Hospital. Police responded to the hospital to investigate a call of a person shot.

Maye was pronounced dead on Tuesday at the hospital.

No suspects are in custody. Police said they will reveal more information when it becomes available.
