Pedestrian Struck And Killed By Birmingham PD Patrol Car
A pedestrian died after being struck Saturday by a Birmingham PD patrol cruiser on Tarrant Huffman Road and Airport Blvd.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a Birmingham PD patrol car Saturday night. The incident occurred just after 11 p.m. on Tarrant Huffman Road and Airport Blvd. while the officer was conducting routine patrol.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the pedestrian was in the roadway when struck by police cruiser, and the officer immediately attempted to render aid and summon medical assistance.
Birmingham Fire and rescue responded to location and the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. Details surrounding this incident are under investigation, Mauldin said. The victim has not been identified.

"Consistent with the Birmingham Police Department’s protocol, an internal investigation is being conducted by the Birmingham Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division," Mauldin said. "This protocol applies for all occurrences of injury or death involving an officer. The Birmingham Police Department extends sincere condolence to the family of the victim in this tragic incident."
