Man Shot Dead Near UAB Campus Id'ed

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man was shot and killed near the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus Thursday night, police said.

The apparent homicide happened on 7th Avenue South around 10:50 p.m. Police were called to the 1800 block of the street to investigate a shots fired call.

The victim was found in the 600 block suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The coroner's office and fire officials also responded to the scene and the victim was pronounced dead.

Police also said they found a handgun on the victim. He was identified as 20-year-old Tremanie Howard, of Bessemer.

No suspects are in custody.
