Siblings Killed In East Birmingham Shooting

A shooting Tuesday in east Birmingham claimed the lives of brothers Lorenzo and Courtney Woods.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A pair of brothers were killed in a shooting Tuesday, one of two shootings Tuesday that claimed three lives. The shootings occurred in east Birmingham and south Birmingham.

The first shooting incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in East Lake. Police found 23-year-old Lorenzo Woods outside a Shell station on East Lake Blvd. suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the hospital a short time afterwards.

While canvassing the area, officers found a Lorenzo Woods' brother, Courtney Woods, laying unresponsive in a grassy area just off of the service road of the Shell gas station. He was pronounced dead on scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

Sgt Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police department said the preliminary investigation suggests the Woods brothers were targeted.

A few hours later, officers responded to 7564 66th Street South on a call of a person shot. Police found 37-year-old Frank Winston dead in the kitchen of a residence.

"This homicide appears to be domestic in nature," Mauldin said. "A female suspect was taken into custody. This incident was isolated in a private residence. There were no other injuries reported."
