Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:
- Several students at Jones Valley Middle School became ill on Tuesday, and one was hospitalized. According to officials, Birmingham Fire and Rescue was called to the school after students became ill after allegedly eating candy. Thirteen students were evaluated ill, while one was taken to Children's of Alabama for treatment. According to the parents of the student who distributed the candy, there was no harmful or illegal substance in the candy. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
- Mayor Randall Woodfin has declared May 1-7 as Birmingham Peace Week. The announcement comes as the Magic City announces it will host the 2023 International Peace Conference (IPC) on May 4-6. The IPC hosts leaders from around the world to share their solutions to the world's toughest problems. (Bham Now)
- A new food delivery app is coming to Birmingham and is looking to hire 200 contract drivers in the area. ASAP, a food delivery service formerly known as Waitr, said that delivery demand has grown to the point that hiring is necessary. Drivers have the opportunity to work as much as they would like, and would be working to "delivery anything ASAP" including food, convenience items, flowers, and other items. (AL.com)
