- AT&T is laying off 23 Birmingham employees. The company, which has multiple divisions in Birmingham, is planning to lay off employees by Jan. 16, according to the Birmingham Business Journal. An AT&T spokesperson said the company will continue to invest in the Birmingham area and the hundreds of employees working in the city, despite the cuts. (WBRC)
- Beginning in February, Birmingham Water Works (BWWB) will resume the shutoff of water services for customers with delinquent accounts. The update was announced in a press release on Wednesday. According to the release, shutoffs will resume due to the utility now being fully staffed and having resolved its billing issues with 99 percent of BWWB customers. Shutoffs will resume on Feb. 15. - A barrage of gunfire left a woman dead in a running vehicle in a west Birmingham neighborhood near the 2500 block of 24th Street Ensley. The victim, 43-year-old Shundra Denise McCray Vines, of Birmingham, was identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. This incident marks Birmingham’s 141st homicide of 2022. (AL.com)
