Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:
- In Birmingham, a fight involving high school students escalated with the involvement of adults, resulting in three individuals being hospitalized. On Thursday, a juvenile male and an adult female were cut or stabbed with a sharp object, while another adult female was believed to have been struck in the head with a gun. The victims suffered serious but non-life-threatening lacerations, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. (AL.com)
- Amid the rise in bullying, particularly on social media, students from Martha Gaskins Elementary in Birmingham took a proactive stance against bullying and won first place in a national anti-bullying competition. The 37 fifth-grade students participated in the "Students with Solutions" contest by creating a video that promoted social-emotional learning and offered messages against bullying. Their efforts were recognized by the Birmingham City Council, and the students received t-shirts and posters as a token of appreciation. (Alabama's News Leader)
- The Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce awarded $4,000 in scholarships to four outstanding seniors from nearby Hoover High School, namely Kenzie Boyett, Noah McAfee, Elizabeth Powell, and Neiley Mann. The recipients were selected from a pool of over 25 applicants based on their academic achievements, financial need, and contributions to the community. The scholarship committee expressed the difficulty in choosing among the exceptional applicants and recognized their hard work and dedication. (Hoover Sun)

Owner Scott Green announced his retirement through a social media post and a notice displayed on the restaurant's entrance, expressing gratitude to customers and friends who made the journey memorable. - Kelvin Lamar Maddox has been missing for over two years, and his Birmingham family is seeking help from the public to find him. Despite extensive efforts to locate him, including checking hospitals and jails, no information has been found. Maddox was last heard from in February 2021 after being involved in a hit-and-run incident, but no police report of the accident exists. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
