  1. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Wednesday signed four executive orders aimed at improving education levels across the state. One of them establishes the Governor’s Commission on Teaching and Learning, which includes Mountain Brook Schools Superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow as a member and will "examine ways to enhance the quality of elementary and secondary education," presenting recommendations in December 2023.   2. Smoke from the Moody landfill fire that's been raging since November is now affecting Mountain Brook residents, said City Councilwoman Graham Smith. According to reports it is especially noticeable in elevated neighborhoods of town, such as Cherokee Bend and Brookwood Forrest. A class-action lawsuit has now been filed against the landfill's owners and operators. (CBS 42)
  3. The Mountain Brook High School wrestling team is advancing to the state duals championship, with a match against Mortimer Jordan scheduled for this Friday in Birmingham. (Mountain Brook High School via Twitter)
