  1. Alabama's Congressional delegation has requested more than $722 million for local projects in a federal spending bill approved by the Senate on Thursday. The biggest requests — totaling $200 million — come from Sen. Richard Shelby, and include improvements to shipping and rail infrastructure, as well as projects at the University of Alabama. Gary Palmer, who represents Mountain Brook in the House of Representatives, did not request funding, according to records. (AL.com)
  2. MELT, a popular mac and cheese and sandwich shop, is closing its original Avondale restaurant after eight and a half years today. It's opening back up in Mountain Brook's new Lane Parke in the first week of January. (Bham Now)
