🌱 Alabama Election Day + Mountain Brook Home Prices Increase

Good morning, Mountain Brook. Today is primary election day. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Did you know that Alabama is one of 30 states that requires employers to give you time off to vote?

1. The price for a new home in Mountain Brook has increased by 16.7% over the past year, and 42.2% in the past five. It's also the top most expensive city in the Birmingham metropolitan area, with a typical home price coming in at $910,816. (AL.com)
2. John Callen, a tennis player from Birmingham, passed away recently after battling cancer for many years. He is remembered by his friend and former rival, Mountain Brook native golfer Pat DuPré. (Over the Mountain Journal)
3. A woman died on Sunday night after walking onto Interstate 65 near Green Springs Avenue. The investigation is ongoing. (WVTM 13)
4. Michael Posey, a Latin teacher at Mountain Brook Junior High, was recognized for the fifth time as a National Endowment for the Humanities grant recipient. This summer, he plans to spend time researching the connections and parallels between the experiences of present-day veterans and veterans from the classical era that fought in wars thousands of years ago.
