Here are the top three stories in Mountain Brook today:

  1. Exciting news from the Birmingham Zoo! For the first time in its history, flamingos hatched two adorable chicks earlier this summer–Baron and Pinecone. Flamingo pairs are monogamous, and create "volcano-shaped mud cones" for their nests. (WBRC 6)
  2. Across Jefferson County, officials are concerned by a looming shortage of EMTs and emergency vehicles such as ambulances, partially due to supply-chain issues and the pandemic. Glenwood Fire Marshal Josh Bryant, for instance, is still waiting on two ambulances he ordered for his city 18 months ago. (WVTM 13)
  3. Alfred Lorenzo Jenkins Jr., who had just turned 18, was killed by gunfire outside of a gas station in Birmingham at 4000 block of Messer Airport Highway on Friday evening. He was the 91st homicide victim of the year in Birmingham. (AL.com)
