1. The Birmingham Zoo reported Tuesday that its beloved female lion, Akili, is dead after sustaining injuries inflicted by a newly-introduced male lion, Josh. Akili has been in the Magic City since 2007, and was born in Colorado Springs in 2005. (AL.com)
