Canterbury United Methodist Church Celebrates 150th Anniversary
On Oct. 15, Canterbury United Methodist Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary of its founding in 1867.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — On Oct. 15, Canterbury United Methodist Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary of its founding in 1867. The church will hold its celebration during its 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.
"A hundred and fifty years for any organization is a huge accomplishment, and the fact that Canterbury has been in existence for that long is one thing, but the fact that Canterbury has been positively making a difference in the Mountain Brook community and beyond during that whole time is even more phenomenal," Senior Pastor Dale Cohen told AL.com.
Upon its founding, Canterbury was originally known as Irondale Methodist Episcopal Church, and then as Union Hill Methodist Episcopal Church when it moved to Hollywood Boulevard in 1874. It got its current moniker in 1928 to keep with Mountain Brook's English influence. Canterbury merged with the Mountain Brook Methodist Church to become the Canterbury-Mountain Brook Methodist Church, but got its shorter name back in 1968.
