  1. A local church has voted to remain in the United Methodist Church. The church council of the 4,480-member Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook voted Monday night on the subject of the potential disaffiliation. Since December 2022, more than half of all churches in the North Alabama Conference have left the United Methodist Church. (AL.com)
  2. The Alabama Writers' Cooperative (AWC) will host its fall conference at the O'Neal Public Library from Sep. 8-10. The event will feature an open mic night, multiple author panel discussions, and a variety of writing workshops. The conference also celebrates the AWC's 100th anniversary. (OBA)
