- Joran van der Sloot is being advised by Dutch officials to fight his planned extradition from Peru to the United States. Van der Sloot is the main suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Mountain Brook teenager Natalee Holloway, and he is currently facing federal charges in the United States relating to an alleged extortion scheme involving Holloway's mother. According to a Dutch news outlet, officials at the Dutch embassy in Peru are advising van der Sloot to resist his transfer, and his lawyer indicated that van der Sloot has not signed his emergency passport. (Yahoo! News)
- Down the street in Birmingham, the city council held a town hall for residents to share concerns about predatory towing practices. City Councilman Darrell O’Quinn said that private tow companies are largely acting within the law, but are using loopholes to justify towing vehicles. O'Quinn described a common situation where a person pays for parking through the commonly-used Park Mobile app, but their vehicle gets towed since they haven't updated their car's license plate number in the app. He said this is a longstanding issue, and changes to the current city ordinances are crucial.
