Here are the top three stories in Mountain Brook today:

  1. A former Jefferson County deputy was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer and hindering an investigation. She was found by officers on Tuesday, in a car driving with Kenny Austin, a drug suspect. The deputy, Somer Ross, had resigned last summer after her 11-month-year-old daughter was killed. (WVTM 13)
  2. Inflation over the past year is leading many Alabama civic and nonprofit leaders to once again consider eliminating the state's 4 percent sales tax on groceries. First they have to find a way to do so without taking away revenue from the state's schools, which receive a large amount of the roughly $500 million in grocery taxes generated annually. (AL.com)
  3. Authorities are investigating the death of a 23-year-old man found at the 4500 block of Sixth Avenue South – close to Mountain Brook – on Friday afternoon. Over the past year there have been 77 homicides in Birmingham and 100 in Jefferson County. (AL.com)
