1. One of Crestline Elementary school's janitors, Yaphet Minter, was given a special birthday surprise by students who say he's particularly friendly and outgoing with them. Together, one fourth grade class raised the money to purchase him a pair of Air Jordan 7 PSG shoes, a $100 gift card, and his favorite candy. (Village Living)
2. Mountain Brook's track and field teams are preparing for a strong season this year. Last year, the boys team placed second to Scottsboro in Class 6A, while the girls won a victory at the 6A state meet. 3. The Birmingham Zoo has renewed its accreditation with The Association of Zoos & Aquariums, which it will keep for the next five years. It's the only zoo in the state of Alabama to hold that recognition. (6 WBRC)
4. Members of the Mountain Brook Baptist Church's choir are joining over 200 choir members from across the Birmingham area to perform All Nature Sings: A Night of Sacred Music on September 25 at 6 p.m. in the Alabama Theater. (Broadway World)
