- One of Crestline Elementary school's janitors, Yaphet Minter, was given a special birthday surprise by students who say he's particularly friendly and outgoing with them. Together, one fourth grade class raised the money to purchase him a pair of Air Jordan 7 PSG shoes, a $100 gift card, and his favorite candy. (Village Living)
- Mountain Brook's track and field teams are preparing for a strong season this year. Last year, the boys team placed second to Scottsboro in Class 6A, while the girls won a victory at the 6A state meet. Over the past 25 years, Mountain Brook has overall been dominant in the competition. (Village Living)
- The Birmingham Zoo has renewed its accreditation with The Association of Zoos & Aquariums, which it will keep for the next five years. It's the only zoo in the state of Alabama to hold that recognition. (6 WBRC)
