  1. Johny's Restaurant in Homewood, owned and run by head chef Timothy Hontzas, a Mountain Brook resident, is a James Beard Award finalist for best southern restaurant. The restaurant was first opened in Jackson, Mississippi by Hontzas's grandfather Johnny, who immigrated to America from Greece in 1921. (AL.com)
  2. Mountain Brook's schools will be receiving "long overdue" renovations and upgrades this summer. Work has been ongoing since last year, after $75 million in bonds were issued for the renovations in 2020. The improvements include a new gymnasium for Crestline Elementary School. Per a recent notice, all Mountain Brook Junior High facilities will remain closed over the summer. (Village Living)
  3. Euphonious Festival is returning to the Birmingham Zoo for one weekend this June, after a successful inaugural season last year. The musical festival will feature local talent like Pixellay (Landon Friedman). Organizers expect to see about 2,000 visitors per day. (Village Living)
