Jewish Community Center To Reassess COVID-19 Precautions

With more cases of COVID-19 reported in Alabama, the Levite Jewish Community Center is adopting some of its previous protocols for safety.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — As 2021 comes to an end, the coronavirus pandemic, unfortunately, has not. In fact, the U.S. has seen a significant spike in cases of the virus and hospitalizations, which is why the Levite Jewish Community Center has adopted measures to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

"Our commitment to the health and safety of our community is unwavering," LJCC executive director Aimee Johnson said in a statement Thursday. "In light of the ongoing surge of new Covid cases in our greater community — and after seriously considering our options — the LJCC is adopting the following measures to begin Sunday, January 1 (we will reassess the situation just two weeks later, on January 15)."

Measures that will go into effect Jan. 1 include:

  • Masks will be required in public areas, on the fitness floor, and in administrative offices
  • We will limit the number of participants in group fitness classes
  • Swim instructors and lifeguards will wear facial coverings
  • Enhanced cleaning will be maintained throughout the facility
  • We will move classes outdoors when possible

"Accept our sincere appreciation for your continued help protecting our members and neighbors during this relatively brief two-week period,"Johnson said.
