Here are the top three stories today in Mountain Brook:

  1. Mountain Brook Junior High School Principal Donald Clayton spoke on the schools podcast about back to school logistics. Students have the opportunity to pick up their supplies on July 28 and 29, as well as August 6 and 7. Rising 7th graders can look forward to Spartan Day on August 3 when they'll get to see the renovated building, complete with a new lunchroom and new library. (Mountain Brook Schools)
  2. Starting on October 1 Mountain Brook will begin solid waste and recycling collection through the company Amwaste. Backdoor collection will only be offered on "an elective subscription basis paid quarterly by the homeowner." You can register at this link by August 12. (City of Mountain Brook)
  3. Unlike many of its neighboring states, Alabama has not passed significant tax breaks or other form of relief amid rising inflation. That's leading some politicians and civic groups to call for the legislature to enter a special session aimed at providing relief. (AL.com)
