- Mountain Brook High School's volleyball team won nine straight matches last week at the HeffStrong Tournament, including against Woodlawn, Fairhope, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and Homewood. Two-time Class 6A defending champions, the Spartan team is ranked second. (AL.com)
- Robert Findlay Smith, the 70-year-old man charged with killing three people inside St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills in June, pleaded not guilty during a court appearance on Monday. The State of Alabama is reported to be seeking the death penalty. (CBS 42)
- Firefighters put out a fire yesterday afternoon at Perry’s Steakhouse in the Colonnade. The cause of the blaze hasn't yet been determined and the site will need to be inspected by health department officials before reopening. (AL.com)
