  1. Republican Mike Shaw, a Hoover City Councilman, will represent Alabama's 47th state district in Montgomery after defeating Democrat Christian Coleman. The victory was bittersweet for Shaw, who said he's loved holding his current position for the past six years. His campaign was focused on "fiscal conservatism, smart government, small government and pro-business philosophies." (Village Living)
  2. Democratic incumbent Mark Pettway has declared victory in the race for Jefferson County sheriff against his Republican challenger, Jared Hudson. (WVTM 13)
