Mountain Brook City Council Discusses Lane Parke, Sidewalks

The Oct. 9 meeting of the Mountain Brook City Council addressed the Lane Parke Shopping Center and the city's sidewalk master plan.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — The Oct. 9 meeting of the Mountain Brook City Council addressed two of the city’s biggest developments: Lane Parke and sidewalks.

According to Village Living, the detour on Lane Park Road has been removed as the Lane Parke Shopping Center prepares to move into phase two of its development, and Jemison Lane is projected to be finished by January 2018. Regions is constructing a new building and will close its old building on Oct. 27 before relocating on Oct. 30. The Rite Aid in the Mountain Brook Shopping Center will be closed by the end of June 2018.

The shopping center will also be getting three new businesses. Swoop, which will move from its current brick and mortar in Mountain Brook Village; Tulipano, a clothing boutique; and Italian restaurant Medici will occupy some of the undeveloped space in Lane Parke. As more businesses make their way into the center, additional parking has been explored, including a one-level parking deck and paving the empty space behind the center.

As it moves forward with its sidewalk improvements, the city will apply for additional funding through a Transportation Alternative Grant. Roads that qualify for the grant will be evaluated through a proposed study that will comprise two sections of the overall master plan:

-Overhill Road from Hastings Road to Balmoral Road; Balmoral Road from Overhill Road to Pine Crest Road; and Pine Crest Road from Balmoral Road to Overbook Road
