Mountain Brook City Employees Receive Raise

Mountain Brook city employees will receive a small increase in pay effective Oct. 3.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — Mountain Brook city employees will receive a small increase in pay effective Oct. 3, AL.com reported. The motion to increase pay was approved by the Mountain Brook City Council on Monday evening, giving Mountain Brook's 232 city employees a 2 percent raise each.

"The city leaders work very hard to provide employees with annual cost of living raises," Mayor Stewart Welch told AL.com. "This has not always been possible such as several years following the Great Recession (of 2008). One thing that really helps is we maintain a relatively lean workforce. We have great employees who are smart and work very efficiently."

City Manager Sam Gaston also told AL.com the cost of living raise will cost an additional $370,000. Gaston himself received a 2 percent raise. (For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Birmingham Patch morning newsletter.)
