Here are the top four stories today in Mountain Brook:

  1. Alabama's primary elections are less than a week away. Here are some of the candidates that will be on the ballot in Mountain Brook. Dan Roberts, Republican, is up for re-election as State Senator in District 15. The owner of a real estate sales and development firm, his top priorities are "economic development with tax reform and deregulation of business," and improving education. (BirminghamWatch)
  2. Roberts is opposed by Republican Brian Christine, a urologist from Mountain Brook specializing in men's health. He "favors a state lottery for college and trade school scholarships and to help young farmers get a start." He supports medical marijuana, but not for recreational use. (BirminghamWatch)
  3. Students at Samford University weigh in on the upcoming election. Out of five students interviewed, one identified as Republican, another as Democrat, while three said they were independent. Some of the students cited a politician's track record and consistency as one of their top priorities. (WVTM 13)
  4. Samford University received a $100 million gift earlier this week. That's the largest single donation ever made to an Alabama institution of higher education. It came out of the estate of Marvin Mann, a Samford alumni who passed away in 2019, and will fund future scholarships. (Over The Mountain Journal)
