Here are the top four stories today in Mountain Brook:

  1. Mountain Brook incumbent council members Billy Pritchard, in Place 3, and Lloyd Shelton in Place 5, won another term on Tuesday night. They'll be joined by a newcomer, Graham Smith, serving in Place 1. They earned more votes than three other candidates – Christopher Powanda, Kent Osband and Tate Davis. All three are serving five-year terms until 2027, so that the city can shift its municipal elections to 'off-years' that don't coincide with state and national elections. (Village Living)
  2. The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority is hoping to expand its bus service in the future, connecting the 'Over The Mountain' communities surrounding The Magic City, such as Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills. For the moment, transit ridership is down in Vestavia Hills, with only 2,823 riders so far this year–partially due to the pandemic. (Vestavia Voice)
  3. Mountain Brook will face off against James Clemens in high school football Friday, at the same time Homewood takes on Vestavia Hills. See the full schedule here, as well as a new sports podcast. (Village Living)
  4. Onward Reserve, described as a "men's lifestyle retailer," will be opening up its first Alabama shop in Mountain Brook's new Lane Park. The store will have "performance and tailored sportswear, the well-known 5-pocket pant and sportscoat suit, casual t-shirts and gifts." (AL.com)
