1. Mountain Brook will try to defend its title in super regional volleyball tournaments that are set to begin on Wednesday with a total of 208 teams. The Spartan's first pairing is against Fort Payne at 2 p.m. The state championship tournament is set for Oct. 25-27. (AL.com)
2. In more sports news, the Mountain Brook high school football team defeated Mortimer Jordan 56-14 in northern Jefferson County on Friday, setting them up for an Oct. 21 match for the region title against Gardendale. (Village Living)
3. A Hoover police officer experienced injuries after being shot at midday on Sunday. A suspect was taken into custody after a standoff lasting several hours. (AL.com)
4. Also this weekend, a Homewood police officer has been placed on administrative leave after responding to reports of a suspicious person early Saturday morning and firing at the suspect. (6 WBRC)
