Here are the top four stories today in Mountain Brook:
- Both the Mountain Brook boys and girls lacrosse teams won the state championship over their "archrival" Vestavia Hills this year. The boys team won in a close and heated 13-12 game, while the girls defeated the hills by 15-11. (Over the Mountain Journal)
- Spire is set to begin construction work at the intersection of Montevallo Road and Church Street Thursday. The work should last until the end of the summer. At least one lane of traffic is expected to remain open in both directions. (Instagram)
- Steinway Piano Gallery is the latest small business to move into English Village. The Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Thursday. According to the website, it is the fourth-generation of an more than 90-year-old family business that operates in Alabama and Tennessee, selling pianos and offering tune-ups. (Facebook)
- Alabama's unemployment rate was at an all-time low of 2.8% last month. That's significantly lower than the overall U.S. April jobless rate of 3.6%. The unemployment rate in Jefferson County was 2.1%, down from 3.6% in April of last year. (AL.com)
