  1. The Mountain Brook Police Department is holding a care kit drive through Jan. 15 in partnership with Prescott House, a nonprofit that provides support to children that have been victims of abuse or witnesses to violence. Items such as "toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, comb/brush" and more can be left in bins in the Department's lobby. (City of Mountain Brook)
  2. Here's a recap of high school sports in Mountain Brook over the past week. The boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Vestavia Hills last week, and the indoor track & field team had a strong showing at the Holiday Invitational last Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. (Village Living)
  3. Mountain Brook coach Chris Yeager was voted the Over The Mountain football coach of the year. Upon hearing the announcement, he said he was a little surprised, praised the work of his fellow coaches in Homewood, Hoover and elsewhere. He also gave credit for the Spartans' strong performance this season to his staff.   4. Schools across Alabama, including in Birmingham, responded to shooting threats on Tuesday morning, which appeared to have been hoaxes. This comes weeks after Vestavia Hills High School students were informed about a threat made by a student. (AL.com)
