Here are the top three stories today in Mountain Brook:

  1. Severe storms caused heavy damage across the greater Birmingham area on Thursday–including Mountain Brook where streets were closed due to downed trees, the police department reported via Twitter, including Old Brook Trail (near Old Brook Way), Brookwood Road (Overcrest Road - Robin Drive), and Cromwell Drive (near Kyle Drive). As of Thursday evening after 9 p.m. the only street still closed was the 3800 block of Cromwell Drive. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  2. During the Birmingham World Games the Department of Homeland Security was coordinating with other local agencies, including police departments, as part of an anti-human trafficking operation that resulted in "34 arrests of commercial sex buyers" and identified 15 victims. (Village Living)
  3. Homewood Library will be hosting a #MakerGirl event on July 27, geared towards empowering girls to participate in STEM fields. The program, which began in 2016, has reached over 5,000 students. (Over The Mountain Journal)
