- The Mountain Brook High School girl's volleyball team has earned a spot in the state tournament in Birmingham next week after 3-0 wins over Fort Payne and Athens on Wednesday. (Mountain Brook High School via Twitter)
- There is already significant flu activity across almost all of Alabama–including the Mountain Brook area–this season, with 15 outbreaks in the past week. The Alabama Department of Public Health is encouraging people to get vaccinated before the end of the month. (AL.com)
- Much of Alabama is currently experiencing a drought, and significant rain isn't expected until during next week. The Birmingham area has seen two inches less of rain than in a typical year since September 1st. Dry conditions could impact the state's water supply in the future. (WVTM 13)

While growing up he "became the starting left tackle on Mountain Brook High School's football team that won back-to-back State Championships in 1975 and 1976, for the first and only time in school's history."
