1. Jack Heaps, a rising senior from Mountain Brook who attends Homewood High, was recently named Gatorade Alabama Boys Soccer Player of the Year. That puts him in the running for the national title, which will be announced later this month. The award is based on "outstanding athletic excellence and high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field." (AL.com)
2. In some possibly familiar-sounding news, Mountain Brook ranks number 1 on a list of the "10 Alabama cities with the fastest-growing home prices." The typical value is $917,875, having risen 16.9 percent, or $132,50, in the past year. (AL.com)
3. A police officer in Birmingham was injured after their car crashed into a utility pole at 19th Street and First Avenue South early Thursday morning. Reports indicate the patrol vehicle did not have its headlights or siren on. (CBS 42)
