  1. The Longleaf Wellness Center, a new "drug and alcohol abuse and mental health" facility, will be opening up soon in Hoover in front of the Birmingham Recovery Center in International Park. The Recovery Center opened its doors last summer. (Village Living)
  2. Jefferson County Commissioners voted on Thursday to increase the amount of federal funds for the World Games to $6.5 million, bringing the Games' leaders one step closer to paying off their $14 million deficit. (6 WBRC)
  3. The Alabama Board of Education voted this week to modify its law passed in April which prohibits the discussion of gender and sexuality that isn't age-appropriate in school classrooms. The new language encourages local school districts to consider the Alabama Core Teaching Standards and the Alabama Educator Code of Ethics. It also requires that any violation of the law which could result in a teacher's termination or suspension be reported to the State Superintendent of Education. (AL.com)
