Patch Team Of The Week: Mountain Brook Girls Cross Country
The Mountain Brook High School girls cross country team captured the state championship, its 24th in team history.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — The Mountain Brook High School girls cross country team captured its 24th state championship last week, which earned the Spartans the honor of being chosen as the Patch Team of the Week.
The girls team dominated the field and captured the 6A state championship with runners finishing in 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th and 9th places. Reagan Riley captured the individual title finishing in 17 minutes and 39 seconds, 34 seconds ahead of the field.
The team placed 6 runners inside the top 15 and on the All-State team. All-State honor winners were, in order of finish, Reagan Riley 1st, Clark Stewart 2nd, Hunter Anderson 6th, Mary Katherine Malone 8th, Lucy Benton 9th and Kennedy Hamilton 12th.

Virginia Averyt, Callie Kent, Holland Finch, and Anne Lichty rounded out the Spartan’s state championship roster.
This was Mountain Brook High School’s 175th overall varsity state championship.

"Our girls are now officially the fastest team in state history by a good margin," head coach Michael McGovern said. "We ran our best when it counted and saved our best races for the end."
The Patch Team of the Week honors a Birmingham metro high school athletic team, and is chosen by Patch staff.
