Here are the top three stories today in Mountain Brook:

  1. Employees at Smith's Variety shop still remember making hundreds if not thousands of yellow bows, which residents put on the top of their mailboxes in support of Natalee Holloway's family, after her disappearance. The shop's current owner says the disappearance is still on people's minds, more than 15 years later. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  2. Congratulations to the Alabama students selected out of more than 15,000 finalists nationally to receive a National Merit $2,500 scholarship. They include Mountain Brook High School students Vaughn Frost and Caley Recod. (AL.com)
  3. Mountain Brook High School senior Sophia Li is one of 161 students to be recognized as a 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholar, for having "demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, technical expertise, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community."
