Spartans Enter Top 5 After Win Over Vestavia
The Alabama Sports Writers Association has Mountain Brook tanked in the top 5 in its latest football poll.
MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — A huge win over rival Vestavia Hills Friday has Mountain Brook now ranked in the Alabama Sports Writers Association top 5 in this week's poll. The Spartans, who came into Week 1 ranked no. 8 in the ASWA poll, jumped to no. 5 after trouncing Vestavia 33-3.
A stingy defense and a strong running game from Mountain Brook propelled the Spartans to the win Friday, with just enough big plays from new starting quarterback John Colvin and some timely turnovers caused by the Mountain Brook defense, led by linebackers John McMillan, Vaughn Frost and Trent Wright.
The Spartans face another 7A opponent this week when they travel north to play Hunstville High School.
