- The Mountain Brook Tree Commission is working with the Birmingham Zoo to recycle natural Christmas trees without ornaments, so they can be turned into mulch. They can be dropped off by the zoo's picnic tables through the end of the first week of January. Trees left at the curbside will not be recycled. (ABC 3340)
- Schools across Alabama are experiencing a teacher shortage. According to data from a survey conducted by the Alabama State Department of Education, the Mountain Brook City school district had 15 teacher vacancies at the start of this school year. There were more than 1,500 vacancies statewide. (AL.com)
- Mountain Brook High School's Cole Gamble was listed as a finalist for best football player of the year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in the 6A Back category. The year's finalists are set to attend the annual "ASWA Mr. Football Banquet" on Jan. 12 in Montgomery where winners will be announced. (AL.com)
