Homeowner Shot By Armed Intruder In Center Point

A 64-year-old man was shot by a burglar in his Center Point home Tuesday morning.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A man was shot by an armed intruder in his home in Center Point Tuesday morning. The incident occurred in the 2500 block of 6th Street NE just before 11 a.m.

Sgt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the 64-year-old man reported that he arrived home and heard noises coming from another part of the house. He then spotted a burglar downstairs, who shot him before fleeing the home.

"The homeowner's injuries appear to be non-life-threatening and he was transported to the hospital by ambulance," Money said. "Evidence was recovered on the scene and deputies are currently searching for the offender."
